Successful June 15th Event!

“I’m happy to report the first Martha Ballard awareness and fundraising event was well-attended and everyone had an enjoyable evening. We are on our way to developing the beautiful plot of riverfront land, appropriated by the city of Augusta, near where Martha lived, and launched her canoe voyaging to deliver so many 17th and 18th-century babies. A big thank you to the Calumet Club for making this event possible and all the people who came to support it including Augusta Mayor Mark O’Brien. Another thank you to the Cities of Augusta, Hallowell, and Gardiner for proclaiming the month of June as Martha Ballard Month. Committee member, and member of the Kennebec Historical Committee, Joe Owen, narrated and interviewed a panel of Martha’s direct line great-granddaughters. Martha came to life during this delightful discussion of her life, not to mention the table flowers were gathered from the field of her 1800.s Great Grandson, Jonathan Moore Ballard’s farm. Look forward to many more events celebrating Martha as we continue to raise money in her honor placing a statue and garden in Mill Park.
Have a wonderful summer.”
